Ben & Jerry’s

Services: Video Production, Photography, Animation, Art Direction, Copywriting, Treatment

We’ve been working with Ben & Jerry’s since 2012 on a huge range of fun and meaningful projects. We get to do things like concoct recipe videos, interview the refugees who make cookie dough chunks, and collaborate with Colin Kaepernick’s team to launch a new flavor.

Honestly, it’s a privilege to work with a company that’s guided by its values in everything it does.

CHange is bRewing

Working on the launch of a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor is always fun. We have to admit, though: this one was really special. Change is Brewing isn’t just delicious—it celebrates a vision of the world where everyone everywhere can feel safe and thrive.

The Change is Brewing launch was designed to put a spotlight on the People’s Response Act (PRA), legislation that takes an inclusive, caring, and health-based approach to public safety. That means sending unarmed specialists, not police, to help people experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. That means investing in vital services and programs that truly keep people—especially Black and Brown people—safe.

From creating launch assets to handling the technical side of the livestream, we were honored and humbled to be a part of this powerful event.

Look at those colors, look at those textures, look at those swirls and chunks! We spent hours in our studio ensuring that this flavor looks so good that you’d be leaving smudges on your screen trying to get at it.

Ben & Jerry's X Colin Kaepernick: Change The Whirled

+ Video Production, Photography, Animation, Art Direction, Copywriting, Treatment

When Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the national anthem to protest police violence, white supremacy, and systemic racism, he wasn’t planning on becoming an international icon in the struggle for racial justice. He was just trying to use his position as an NFL quarterback to speak up for those who have so often been silenced.

Colin paid a price for his activism. But despite essentially being forced out of the NFL, he never stopped building his movement. He formed Know Your Rights Camp (KYRC) to empower Black and Brown youth and help create a new generation of leaders. And now he’s working with Ben & Jerry’s on Change the Whirled, a delicious new certified vegan Non-Dairy flavor. All of Colin's proceeds go right to KYRC, all the pint artwork was done by the amazing BMike, and all of the love and joy that fuels Colin's work went right into making this a cara-melt-in-your-mouth dessert masterpiece.

We were honored to work on just about every aspect of this huge flavor launch with Ben & Jerry’s and Colin’s team.

Ready to Change the Whirled? We definitely are.

Justice ReMix'd

+ Video Production, Photography, Animation, Art Direction, Copywriting, Treatment

Our criminal justice system has a breathtaking lack of justice. America locks up more people than any other country on earth, and it doesn’t make us any safer. Not only that, the system is racist too—so if you’re a person of color, you’re much more likely to be arrested and sent to prison (for a longer period of time) than a white person who did the same thing.

Ben & Jerry’s thinks it’s time for a change. Instead of spending our money on police and prisons, we should invest in people and communities. That belief is at the heart of Justice ReMix’d, and we worked with Ben & Jerry’s to bring the campaign to life through videos, photography, blogs, and animation on their website and all social-media channels.

Want to learn more about Justice ReMix’d and transform the criminal justice system? You know what to do.

Whiskey Biz Cake & Cocktail
Over the top? Possibly. Whether you slap this baby together and eat it over the kitchen sink or layer it lovingly, top it with maple syrup, and eat it like a civilized human being, it’s sure to be the highlight of your taste buds’ day. This bad boy is best shared with a friend or two...or six.

Rhino Foods

+ Video Production, Art Direction, Treatment

We worked with Ben & Jerry’s to tell the story of how Theogene Mahoro and other refugees found a place to call home at Rhino Foods and in Vermont.

”I was born in Rwanda in 1975. My mom and my dad had 12 kids... When they come [and] attack my country… I lost a lot of family. They shoot me too. They shoot me [in the shoulder and I thought] I die. At nighttime I left, I walked... I go to Congo… Brazzaville. I live there 10 years. It was a bad life to live in the camp.”—Theogene “Papa” Mahoro, with Rhino Foods since 2005

Democracy is in your hands

+ Video Production, Art Direction, Treatment, Animation, Photography

The Ben & Jerry’s Democracy Is in Your Hands campaign bridges the divide between two historically different but intrinsically connected issues: the movement to expand voter access and voting rights and the movement to get big money out of the political process. Ben & Jerry's wants to activate citizens to take action for a more equitable and just society by building a democracy that works for all regardless of race or income. Driven Studio helped bring the campaign to life.

Climate Justice

+ Art Direction, Video Production, Animation, Graphic Design, copyWriting

We worked with Ben & Jerry's to help spread their message of climate justice and to empower their fans to take action immediately.

On September 21, 2014, Ben & Jerry's took to the streets at the People's Climate March—the largest climate march in history. Filming candid interviews with youth activists, as well as key individuals from Greenpeace and Ben & Jerry's, we crafted a short film to tell the incredibly important story of climate change and help kickstart Ben & Jerry's platform for action, demanding a transition to 100% renewable energy.

People's Climate Movement

+ Video Production, Art Direction, Treatment, Photography

On April 4, 2017, Ben & Jerry's, Driven Studio, and 200,000 like-minded people from all over the country came to Washington, DC, and joined together in a powerful demonstration to demand that our government take meaningful action on climate change.
